Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

Artificial general intelligence, or AGI, refers to machine intelligence that is broadly capable across domains rather than specialized for a narrow set of tasks.

There is no universally accepted test for AGI. Some definitions emphasize human-level performance across cognitive tasks. Others emphasize the ability to learn unfamiliar tasks, operate autonomously or outperform humans at economically valuable work.

We think of AGI less as a single date than as a threshold region: the point at which machine intelligence becomes sufficiently general that the distinction between narrow tools and generally capable intelligence begins to break down.

In short: AGI is a threshold in machine capability.
